This group was set up with the intention of providing External Defibrillators within the estate which would be used in the event of a Cardiac Emergency.

Westcraigs is a modern residential development between Blantyre and Hamilton in South Lanarkshire. It borders on the Hamilton Technology Park which is an area comprising of commercial premises, and the older neighbourhood area of Hillhouse and High Earnock.

There is a large number of residents within the Westcraigs community and the idea of the group is to provide access to emergency defibrillators should they be required.  In particular to have as many situated within the main thoroughfare and where possible located in the different residential pockets of houses throughout the estate.

There have been a number of residents from the estate who have sadly died due to Cardiac Emergencies and we as a community feel that we want to try and protect others who may have ongoing heart and health issues by having these devices available should they be needed.

In that respect this has been the driving force behind fundraising for these devices as the families of these people are keen to prevent anyone else losing a loved one and hope that if they are required they will make a difference and potentially save a life.

We want to initially install three within the estate, namely one wall mounted at the Scotmid at the entrance to the estate, one half way up the estate and another at the top of the estate near to the Fire Path.  Any extra money would allow others to be installed in other areas furthest from Westerpark Avenue.

This fundraising campaign will benefit every person in the estate and surrounding areas from young to old and will be continually monitored to ensure they are in full working order  The hope is that they will never be needed, however they are there should they be needed

As the group name suggests we are a great community who like to help others and we have each other’s safety at heart.
